Im Urlaub auf der wunderschönen Insel La Palma testen die engen Freundinnen MARIE und SARAH die Grenzen zwischen Liebe und Freundschaft. SARAH, die unter schwierigen Verhältnissen aufgewachsen ist und deren Leben mal wieder vor dem Zerbruch steht, sehnt sich nach größerer Intimität. MARIE fühlt sich von dem Schmerz und der Sehnsucht ihrer Freundin überfordert und anfänglich auch hintergangen. Nach und nach lässt sie sich aber in ein lustvolles Spiel aus Nähe und Distanz hineinziehen und entdeckt dabei eine nie gekannte Lebensfreude. Eines Nachts auf dem staubigen Vulkan im Inselinneren überschreiten die Freundinnen die fragilen Grenzen ihrer Freundschaft. MARIE verlässt überstürzt die Insel und flüchtet sich nach Berlin in die Arme ihres etwas älteren Freundes BEN, dem sie nichts von den Vorfällen auf der Insel erzählt. Als SARAH ein halbes Jahr später wieder vor MARIES Tür steht, gerät ihr Leben aus der mit Mühen gewahrten Kontrolle. MARIE muss sich ihren Gefühlen stellen und eine Entscheidung fällen, die ihr Leben auf den Kopf stellt.

While on holiday on the beautiful island of La Palma the close friends MARY and SARAH are testing the boundaries of love and friendship. SARAH grown up under difficult circumstances is crumbling under the demands of her studies and is facing another upset in her young life. She is yearning for more intimacy in their relationship. MARIE is overwhelmed by SARAH’s pain and longing. However despite her initial sense of betrayal MARY gradually allows herself to be drawn by SARAH into a sensual game of closeness and distance and experiences a new joie de vivre. One night on the dusty vulcano in the centre of the island SARAH breaks the fragile rules of their friendship. MARY leaves the island head over heels and flees into the arms of her slightly older boyfriend BEN from whom she witholds what happened on La Palma. When half a year later SARAH reappears on MARY’s door step the arduously held control over her life crumbles. MARY has to face her feelings and confront a decision that will turn her life upside down.
